Today the wine journalist Paul White came to CASA de MOURAZ to taste the new vintages. We tasted the whites from 2010, the rosé and the reds from the Dão, Alentejo and Douro. His favorite wines was: CASA de MOURAZ white Dão 2010, CASA de MOURAZ Private Selection Dão 2009 (a cask sample) and the red António Lopes Ribeiro, Douro 2009.
Paul White are going to spend the next days visiting several wine producers from the Dão, Beira Interior and Bairrada.

Started this week, with a great weather - the sun shinning, heat during the day (27-28ºC), half of this at nigth. We did some of the white vineyards (with mixed grapes): Santiago, Sabugosa, Fraga, Chão do Vale.

Today we continue with Gola and the rest of the Encruzado, we want to press a tank with 100% Encruzado.

Second day - between 5 p.m. and 3 a.m. During a couple of hours, a bus did a tour with some wine producers and wine lovers, stopping at various restaurants and wine bars, for a wine tasting from two producers. In every restaurant, the producers presented one of his wines combined with a dish. We stoped at the following restaurants: Noma (where we presented our Vinho Verde AIR white 2010), Ved Stranden, Krogsd, Gustav's, Paulstian, Formel B, Fiskebar and LêLê.

This weekend we spent 2 days in the Douro Superior, visiting some of our vineyards near Castelo Melhor (Mr. Ribeiro vineyards) and looking around. We also saw the Museum of Foz Coa, a nice building done by the architects Pedro Pimentel and Camilo Rebelo, over the Douro valley.

We believe that this year the vines are about two weeks early, is very rare in Mouraz to have the bunches to paint in the beginning of July. Even with a lost of about 10% due to mildew and black rot, we have a good production now. If the weather helps, can still be a good year!

The 501 (made with quartz) it's the summer preparation for the leaves and bunches, stimulates the processes of photosynthesis, stimulating the plant in terms of growing and quality of the grapes (aromas, maturation, concentration). It's one way to connect the sky (the sun, the ligth) with the earth (the plant).
